AI Policy
updated May 2025
As a book editor, book coach, and writer, I’ve carefully considered generative AI and its place in the creative process. This is my stance:
I will not work with authors who have used generative AI tools like ChatGPT for help in brainstorming, outlining, character development, editing, or any part of the writing process. I don’t support generative AI-written or assisted books as a reader, and I don’t want to support them as an editor or coach either. I believe in human-created art.
However, I will work with authors who have only used AI-powered grammar tools like Grammarly or ProWritingAid, or even used the suggested grammar edits in something like Microsoft Word. I also work with authors who use AI-powered accessibility tools, such as using Speechify, which is a text-to-speech app.
I draw a clear distinction between generative AI and non-generative AI. This distinction informs my policy. There’s a difference between using AI to suggest grammar changes and using AI to perform some essential part of the writing process.
If you’d like a deep dive into why I have this stance and why I urge all writers to avoid generative AI, listen to this episode of my podcast.
If you aren’t sure whether your use of AI violates this policy and would like to explore working together, please fill out the new client inquiry form on my editing page or email me at hello@thekatiewolf.com. I’m happy to discuss it with you.

I do not use any AI tools while editing a manuscript. All edits and comments and suggestions are done by me.
